Volunteer abroad

CACHA has been able to attract and maintain a strong contingency of volunteers who work diligently to meet our objectives in Canada and Africa. The number of volunteers today is in the thousands. Alongside such traditional volunteers on missions and committees; CACHA also provides both short- and long-term work-type placements in Africa.

Surgeons, family doctors, pharmacists, dentists, optometrists, registered nurses and nurse practitioners, gynaecologists, pediatricians, dentists, ophthalmologists and other health care professionals are welcome to join our next medical team going to one of our three host countries, Bénin, Tanzania, and Uganda.

We also need logistics teams on each mission, therefore anyone outside the health care service can, and is encouraged, to participate.

A mission lead is appointed by CACHA to organize the preparation for the mission and lead volunteers on the ground. Health services offered include: General medicine consults, OB/GYN consults, minor surgery, dentistry, ophthalmology, surgical referrals and onsite HIV testing and referrals. Between 250 and 600 patients are seen per clinic day with an average of 4-5 prescriptions per person.

Why participate?

  • To help those in need
  • To train others in your field of expertise
  • To bear witness to the conditions of health care in a developing nation
  • Intercultural learning
  • New challenge
